Lazy Left Eye

When we first met Ryan, one of the first things that I noticed was his eyes, at times, his left eye would "wander".  When brought to my doctor's attention, he looked at them and felt that a referral was necessary....so he referred him to a local Opthamologist....that doctor referred us to the big city to a specialist for kids.  We had our appointment today.....and were told that he has a lazy eye.....( a visual disorder in which the brain partially or wholly ignores input from one eye)  The positive thing about Strabismus (clinical name) is that it is correctable. (YAY!!!!!!!!)  The first line of defense is to patch the strong eye, forcing the weaker one to work more and have the brain recognize it's input, another venue is surgery to correct the lazy eye and glasses.  The likelihood that Ryan will need corrective glasses is high, though right now (as the doctor has recommended) we will be patching the right eye for an hour a day until we go back in three months.  I put the patch on him for the first time today....he was good with it, touching it and saying on.....it was funny to see him try to walk and pick up things as his aim was a little off, but with Ryan, it was so cute that I giggled....which made him laugh.  Hopefully, the patch will retrain his brain....but he sure is the definition of cuteness with that patch on!
